Four online events happening in Leeds during lockdown 2.0

Updated: Jan 29

With the country plunged into a second lockdown, people are left wondering how it will be different from the first one.

While there are a few guidelines that have changed, we're more concerned with the lack of gorgeous summer sunshine to keep us going. Shorter days and colder weather hardly lend themselves to socially distanced drinks with friends in the park.

Luckily, several online events are going on in the Leeds area to add to your calendar and pull you through the next four weeks.

Sip Along online event Leeds

Sip Along at home with rum & whisky tasting

We know the situation; it’s back to weekly Zoom quizzes with friends and family on the sofa in our pyjamas. Don’t get Déjà vu this lockdown, try something different instead!

Rolling Social Events are hosting Sip Along with events which you can join from the comfort of your own home. The ticket holder is sent a link to the event and an incredible sample pack delivered to their home. Each event is hosted by a respective brand ambassador for the spirit.

You’ll be treated to a proper tasting session with some experts as opposed to Aldi’s cheapest wine and Netflix – but hey, no judgement from us on that one.

Online yoga session Leeds

Yoga in your living room

Every Tuesday in November, ID Holistics owner, Erica, is hosting a yoga session to keep the people of Leeds feeling focused and energised.

The 45-minute session starts at 12:30, so is the perfect lunchtime activity to reset you for the afternoon of working from home. This flow and meditate session is a Vinyasa yoga which links your breath to your motion to help you connect to the present moment. What better way to switch off from the world.

Leeds Christmas lights switch-on 2020

Leeds Christmas lights switch-on

Yes, it is that time of year already.

Where we would normally pack on The Headrow or Millenium Square to watch the infamous Christmas lights switch-on, this year, it’s all online. On Sunday 5th November at 4 pm, tune into Millennium Square’s YouTube channel and Facebook page to see the (un)official start to the festive season in Leeds.

Leeds City Council is appealing for people to submit videos and images of their Christmas lights at home so they can feature in a digital montage that will be the climax of the exciting virtual Lights Switch-On. So, get creative!

The Tetley Leeds virtual tour

Contemporary art virtual tour at The Tetley

The Tetley is something of a staple piece of the Leeds landscape. What was once the former headquarters for Tetley Brewery, hence the name, The Tetley is now a hub for all things contemporary art.

While we're all stuck at home, The Tetley is giving us a chance to ‘get out’ and visit their exhibitions via a virtual tour. Check out their current exhibitions from Taus Makhacheva and Emii Alrai or admire the historic Tetley's Board Room under the watchful gaze of the former chairmen.

Hopefully, this has given you some inspiration to pull you through until Christmas! Will you be joining any online events in Leeds this lockdown?
