Updated: Jan 29

Is there anything better than a weekend away with the girls?

Whether that’s relaxing in a spa or hitting up the bottomless brunch, nothing beats a good catch up and a laugh with your mates.

In the UK, we’re lucky to have seemingly an unlimited amount of choice for weekend breaks. So, we’ve pulled together some of top UK city break destinations for a girl’s trip.

Top UK city breaks, Bath

Relaxing spa weekend in Bath

If you’re looking for a long weekend of relaxation, look no further than Bath. This historic city has lots to see and do meaning you’ll never be short of activities.

Stroll around the city centre and check out Bath Abbey, the infamous Roman Baths and Pulteney Bridge. On your way, make sure to stop in at one of the gorgeous tea rooms for a hearty brew and a slice of cake – how British.

The top attraction, of course, is the Thermae Bath Spa, Britain’s only natural thermal spa. There are several packages to choose from including full body massages and steam rooms. Plus, there is even a roof top outdoor pool with stunning views over the city. Perfect for a girly day out and best enjoyed with a glass, or two, of prosecco.

Top UK city breaks, Leeds

Lively nightlife in Leeds

Ah, Leeds, everyone’s favourite nightlife mecca.

If you’re in desperate need of a big girl’s night out, Leeds is the place for you. There are plenty of attractions and things to do in Leeds during the day including some of the best shopping around. But when the sun goes down, Leeds becomes a haven for partygoers.

There are three main streets in the city centre where you’ve got your pick of bars and clubs. Over on Greek Street, you’ve got a selection of cocktail bars which are perfect for a spot of bottomless brunch. Over on Merrion Street you’ll find a host of familiar names, like Manahatta and Roxy Ball Room. But nestled between the chains there are a great selection of independents for a slightly grungier atmosphere.

Last but not least, there is Call Lane. Probably the most popular spot in the city, Call Lane is where the action is. With bar after bar on offer, the street fills out with people and feels more like a strip in Spain than a street in northern England. Basically, if you’re after a fun weekend away where you can get dressed up to go ‘out, out’ – Leeds is waiting for you.

Top UK city breaks, Edinburgh

A little bit of culture in Edinburgh

We can’t create a list of top UK city break destinations without giving Edinburgh a mention.

The capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is a brilliant weekend away with the girls. Not only is there excellent nightlife here but there is also an incredible selection of restaurants too. So, if you’re a foodie bunch, you’ll love exploring some of the eateries in this city.

During the day, make sure to trek your way up to the top of Arthur’s Seat. This extinct volcano is a hearty 251 metres high so trainers and a jacket are must. It’s not as challenging as it sounds but you’ll almost definitely work up a sweat. The views from the top are gorgeous and overlook the whole of Edinburgh making it a great photo opportunity to document your weekend away.

Next up, Edinburgh Castle. In the heart of the city is a historic gem that is an absolute must for any trip to Edinburgh. Once the home of Mary Queen of Scots, Edinburgh Castle is a whole day out in itself. Discover the history of the castle and the dramas that unfolded within its walls. Also, make sure to visit The Honours of Scotland, they are the oldest crown jewels in Britain!

Top UK city breaks, Brighton

Beachy weekend in Brighton

Craving a coastal retreat? Brighton could be just the thing you’re looking for.

It doesn’t get any more quintessentially British than a trip to the seaside. If you and your girls are after a nostalgic weekend away, then Brighton is all you need. Head out onto Brighton Pier and try your hand at the arcade games before hopping on to some of rides and rollercoasters. If you haven’t got a head for heights, pop on over to the Sea Life aquarium on the beachfront for a sea-inspired day out. Or maybe you’d rather do a spot of shopping?
