What to do on New Year’s Eve 2020

Updated: Jan 29

After last week’s news, the Christmas spirit is feeling a little broken – to say the least. With many of the country now in tier 3 or tier 4, any kind of New Year’s Eve celebrations is firmly off the cards.

Once you’ve gone through the five stages of grief, it’s time to start planning a night to look forward to. If this year has taught us anything it’s that having things in your calendar really does make a difference.

Here are some ideas on what to do on New Year’s Eve 2020.

New Year’s Eve for the homebody

While many of us feel like we couldn’t spend another minute at home, for the homebodies and introverts, this year hasn’t been quite so difficult. If you’re the kind of person who prefers their own company, why not pamper yourself this New Year’s Eve?

Start the day with a slap-up brunch of your choice before settling down with a book, movie or whatever you like. You could even spend the day making a scrapbook or memory jar to document the crazy year that has been 2020.

Top it all off with a relaxing bath, drink in hand, to truly unwind into 2021.

New Year’s Eve for the party people

Okay, we get it, the fact there won’t be any New Year’s Eve party this year is pretty devastating. In the words of Love Island 2019, it is what it is. Try to make the most of it and get you and your mates together for a virtual party.

You’re probably sick of quizzes by the end of this year so why not mix things up a bit. Decorate your home with balloons and confetti, get dressed up, and throw a cocktail making party by video call. You and your mates can have a competition as to who can make the best version of several cocktails. Pair this with some online games and you’ve got yourself more than enough fun activities to see you through to midnight.

New Year’s Eve for the crafty people

Are you and your friends or family more of the crafty type? Why not do some joint craft tasks via video call to see in the New Year.

There are loads of fun New Year’s Eve craft activities that you can do with a drink while catching up on a video call. Why not create a New Year’s resolution board where everyone can share their goals for 2021? Or, have a painting competition to see who can create the best image that represents the past year.

If you’re wondering what to do on New Year’s Eve 2020, hopefully, some of these ideas have given you some inspiration. It might not have been the New Year’s Eve we all had in mind, but we can still make the most of it.
